EHA funding opens doors: Local hubs to scale environment wins

Sustainable Taranaki is proud to be a member of Environment Hubs Aotearoa and benefit from their support, which is allowing us to extend our impact - establishing new projects, engaging with mana whenua, reaching out to businesses, partners, and our rohe with an expanding & dedicated team.

We are excited about the positive impact on the tangata and whenua of Taranaki, now and for the future. We hope to be able to announce more positive news soon. —Steve Francis, General Manager

Junction ‘Plastic Free July’ Workshops

There are two workshops on sale now and are in celebration of Plastic Free July.

Sunday 11th July 2 - 4 pm at the Junction - Zero Waste Hub Reusable cutlery kits are on-trend as restaurants around the world phase out single-use spoons, forks, knives, and straws.

Wednesday 21st July 9 am - 12 pm at the Junction - Zero Waste Hub The DIY Decorations for Celebrations is for all ages and especially for students on the school holiday. Let’s make it the norm to have plastic-free parties.

Kai Resilience in South Taranaki

Saturday, 26 June 4 - 7 pm at Te Korowai o Ngāruahine, 147 High Street, Hāwera E ngā hapori o Taranaki ki te Tonga, nau mai haere mai! Join us for a celebration of kai resilience at this time of Puanga. The evening will include guest speakers, inspirational films, and a shared meal to explore solutions around how we can collectively build our kai resilience across the South Taranaki district.

Returning Sustainable Backyards Trail host, Michelle Busby from Goldbush Microfarm, shares how she is getting ready for this year’s spring season months out.

Talking Taiao Radio Show & Podcast

Launching this July, tune into Access Radio 104.4FM on Saturdays at 4 pm. Listen to locals acting as guardians of the land, "Taranaki Tiaki Taiao," while weaving uplifting conversations with Te Reo Māori and Mātauranga to help our community learn through a positive & educational lens.

Making huge strides in just 18 months, the Taranaki District Health Board is racing towards its environmental goals. By 2040, there will be zero landfill waste from the hospital, and currently, that would be a diversion of 288 tonnes. Maria Cashmore explains the many initiatives underway.

Team Focus - Erin Strampel, The Junction Education & Sustainable Backyards Trail Project Manager

Erin has a big heart for the outdoors and looking after our environment. She was in Christchurch working towards her Bachelors in Outdoor Education and Sustainability before, during, and after the earthquake. She found this time inspirational to be part of the rebuilding of the community and to be surrounded by such active and engaged youth.

She started working for Sustainable Taranaki in 2014 coordinating the Impact Program and working with students around our region to connect their environmental ideas and turn them into reality. Seven years on, she now manages the Junction - Zero Waste Hub Tours, Workshops and is in her second year of coordinating the increasingly popular Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail.

Propagation Winter Workshop - Korito Education

Sunday 4th July 9 am - 1 pm $50 Participants will learn propagation techniques working with root cuttings, stolons, rhizomes, and hard and semi-hardwood cuttings. Take home productive plants to get started at home. Contact derinatur@hotmail.com to secure your place.
