Who will be there: NPDC Sustainability Officers, Garden to Table, Seedsavers, The Junction, Sustainable Taranaki, On the House, Bike Kitchen, Te Ara Taiao, Towards a Predator Free Taranaki

The event will take place in two locations. There will be workshops offered at a first come first serve basis with sign ups happening at the entrance of the zoo.

Workshop details:

Towards Predator Free Taranaki: Pest Detective Game
Location: Brooklands Zoo by the toilets.

The Towards Predator-Free Taranaki programme is helping people of Taranaki to identify and control pests and predators around their homes, parks and workplaces.

In this activity, you will learn about introduced predators, how to become a pest detective and how you can help protect native plants and animals in your own backyard.

These will be 30-minute sessions and are suitable for those 5 and over. Maximum capacity 9 per session.

There will be three 30-minute sessions.

Session 1: 11:30-12:00

Session 2: 1:00-1:30

Session 3 2:30-3:00


Garden to Table: Food demonstrations

Location: Envirohub

Food preparation based on what is being planted in the seed sowing workshops. This is suitable for age 4 and up with parent accompanying. Maximum capacity 8 per session.

There will be two 45-minute sessions.

Session 1: 11:00-11:45

Session 2: 12:45-1:15


The Junction Zero Waste Hub presents Sustainable Taranaki and Seed Savers: Seed Saving and Seed Pots

Location: Envirohub

Parents will be learning seed saving techniques while children make upcycled seed sowing pots.

There will be 3x one-hour long sessions. Maximum capacity is 20 per session. These are suitable for all ages.

Session 1: 11:30-12:30

Session 2: 12:45-1:45

Session 3: 2:00-3:00


Bike Kitchen

Location: Brooklands Zoo by the toilets

All-day educational presence around bike maintenance.


Te Ara Taiao

Location: Brooklands Zoo

Informal educational talks about kiwi.

NPDC Sustainability Officer

Location: Brooklands Zoo

Water and recycling games ongoing throughout the event.


Free Food: There will be a sausage sizzle from 12:00-1:00pm

There will be sausages, both meat and vegetarian


We will have someone at the front gate taking bookings for workshops with a first come, first served policy.
