Update: We have planted 5,000 natives so far but we have 5,000 more to plant. We really need your help.
The 800 Trust is planting the King's Coronation Trees (the Taranaki allocation) during September and is wondering if anyone would like to join us on our second and hopefully final round of public planting days on the 16th and 17th of September, any time after 8:30am.
There will be a free sausage sizzle + portaloo on site.
The aim is to plant a bird food forest of 575 acres which connects to other blocks we protect.
During May 2023, 11 kiwi were released into the area that the Trust protects.
The goal is to create a bird food forest that will, over time, become a corridor to Lake Rotokare.
Already in this area, there are fernbirds and falcons.
Come and learn about the area we trap (3,700 acres + the Waitiri Conservation block).
We have two full-time rangers. Learn about the rare orchids discovered in the area.
Learn about the kiwi that has been released into the area. Hear about the exciting future plans. Dave Bell, the falcon expert will be at the BBQ. He is studying falcon in the Waitiri area this summer.
The Trust is located on Tauwharenikau Road, Tututawa, Stratford. At Stratford, turn onto the Forgotten Highway, then take the turn-off for Tututawa. Turn down Soldiers Road (just after the blue house), then turn down Tauwharenikau Road.
The 800 Trust is located just before 202 Tauwharenikau Road
If you are not good on a spade or bending over - planting, bring your scissors and help cut up some woollen weed mats that we desperately need help with.
