Construction Waste Management

Reduce your waste and your costs.

We offer support at any stage of your construction waste minimisation journey, whether for retrofits or new builds. From designing out waste and quantifying waste streams to sorting it and picking up the reusable materials to be donated or resold. We are here to help you reduce what is sent to landfill.

The construction and demolition sectors significantly contribute to waste in Taranaki, accounting for about 60% of landfill contents. Treated timber is the largest component at around 70%, followed by metals (11%), untreated timber (5.5%), and plasterboard, gib, and gypsum at 4.5%.

Reducing waste in construction and demolition projects offers significant environmental, financial, and social benefits. It conserves landfill space, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and minimizes demolition impacts like noise and dust. Financially, it saves costs on new materials, improves work efficiencies, and generates revenue from salvaged materials. Socially, it enhances community health, attracts skilled employees, boosts client satisfaction, and improves site safety by managing hazardous materials more effectively. Implementing waste minimization strategies leads to a more sustainable, cost-effective, and socially responsible construction industry.

Please email us to arrange a pickup for any reusable building materials you have. These materials will be taken to the Junction for resale. While onsite, we will also go through your skip or waste piles to see if there's anything else that can be resold.  This will help reduce the amount you need to pay at the landfill.

Waste Management Plan

Our Sustainable Builders Manager will produce a waste management plan to be submited along with other project documents for consent at council.

This is also a critical document for tracking where waste is being diverted or not. It quantifies the onsite diversion and should be included in any project aiming to reduce construction waste going to landfill.

Educational Experience

Our Sustainable Builders Manager will visit your site or place of work to conduct an awareness session for staff on sustainable construction waste management practices. We will discuss the importance of design in reducing waste and the benefits of designing for deconstruction, while also assisting onsite workers in efficiently managing construction waste. This session will also explain the impacts of construction waste on economic, societal, and governance issues for a construction company.

Snapshot Audit

A “snapshot” is obtained from site-based audits of construction waste onsite. This is a useful lead-in to waste reduction initiatives by providing an initial picture of the types of waste being generated at that stage of the project.

A report will be produced with the results from the snapshot audit, offering advice on which trades are producing the most waste and potential ways to minimize landfill waste onsite. Additionally, it will include suggestions for successful onsite waste management.

Full Project Waste Audit

Includes advice in the planning and pre-planning stages for designing out waste.

All waste produced during a project will be quantified from grading the site till when the project is ready for the client to move in.

The full waste audit will produce a report like these case studies done by Auckland City Council:

“A la carte” Services

Do you prefer “à la carte” services? You can also email us to discuss which services would benefit your project or company the most. We will then design a plan to help you integrate sustainable solutions into your Construction Waste Management programme.
