EHA Funding opens doors
Sustainable Taranaki is one of the 16 environment hubs in New Zealand that is benefitting from a vital boost of funding. The Ministry for the Environment has given 6.4 million to Environmental Hubs Aotearoa (EHA) who will allocate the funds over 4 years to all of the participating hubs.
The support recognises the exceptional environmental achievements, and the Ministry has gone a step further by giving EHA greater autonomy in managing the funding distribution for members. The funding has also allowed the number of environment hubs receiving funding to grow from 9 to 16. This gives the network certainty for planning and paves the way towards more financial self-sufficiency.
“Sustainable Taranaki is very proud to be a member of EHA and benefit from this support which is allowing us to extend our impact - establishing new projects, engaging more with mana whenua, reaching more businesses, other community partners, and more of our rohe, and expanding our dedicated team. We are very excited about the positive impact on the tangata and whenua of Taranaki, now and for the future,” says Steve Francis, General Manager
What this means for our future
Each member of Environment Hubs Aotearoa is unique in the mix of environmental projects they manage and share knowledge and experience across the network.
Focus areas include food recovery, waste minimisation, native tree-planting, wetland restoration, species conservation, composting, home energy efficiency audits, and insulation installments… and more. All projects work with local communities and address climate change as well as restoring nature.
Georgina Morrison, Executive Officer of EHA, said it is wonderful to see recognition for the important work happening in communities. “It is great to have the impact of our work recognised and our capacity to do more boosted when the work is so urgent.”
Susie Robertson, Community Manager at Sustainability Trust in Wellington, says ‘continuation of this funding, and having it overseen by EHA means that we can, as a nation of environment hubs, collectively show the difference we are making – which is significant.”
