Sustainable Business Champion - La Nuova Dry Cleaning
August 2020
On September 22nd, Taranaki and the rest of the world will observe Car Free Day, thus we’d like to highlight a business that is using Green Transport to their advantage.
La Nuova Dry Cleaning Services caught our attention as they seek to continuously improve their dry cleaning and delivery processes to not only minimise their carbon footprint, but also bolster their bottom line.
Brad, the EV expert from La Nuova, notes how the electric delivery van has helped take care of the short distance deliveries in town.
Saves $5000-$6000 on annual fuel costs
100% Electric Nissan purchased from Autocity, New Plymouth
Lower maintenance costs
Fast charging 2 to 3 times per week on premises at Eliot Street location
COMMITTING TO CLEANER TRAVEL SURVEY
La Nuova have also considered adding an electric truck to their fleet once battery technology has further developed to allow for long distance travel.
La Nuova strive to use the latest technology available to their industry. In March 2013, they switched from using the common dry cleaning solvent, percholoroethylene or “perc” to “K4,” a relatively new and more eco-friendly solvent.
Why the change?
Environmental: Perc is known as a harmful marine pollutant when disposed of incorrectly, whereas K4 is claimed to be an eco-friendly biodegradable solvent.
Cleaning quality: the quality of cleaning has also improved.
