Business Champion - Proof & Stock Coffee

Proof & Stock Coffee is leading by example by turning its business waste into eco-friendly products. Adrianna and Tāne Morgan think outside the box by sending 50 alternative milk tetra cartons to Auckland’s Saveboard where the packs get turned into jib boards. It's a free service and takes less than an hour a week to clean and flatten the packs ready for the courier to pick up.

“How do you get other people on board?’ asks Tāne.

"You lead by example. I'd love to see other businesses get involved as tetra-packs are not biodegradable and are polluting our planet."

The New Plymouth couple runs their relaxed café & roastery on Cutfield Road out of a converted double garage where after four years they’ve reduced waste from their growing business. 

“It’s our obligation to care for the environment and balance the scales while streamlining costs to our consumers and the businesses we supply,” smiles Tāne.

All of the business’s plastic milk containers are recycled and in the last 8 months, they've sold hundreds of coffee canisters which reduce packaging waste.

“We’re planning for the future and being conscious about our decisions around products we use.” All of their coffee grinds are composted on-site and returned as nutrients for the whenua (land) or generously shared with the community.
