Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail 2020 Recap

Kia ora koutou,

What an incredible 10 days with our garden hosts putting so much time and energy into sharing their knowledge and gardens with our community. We had record numbers attend this year and with the collaborative effort from the Taranaki Garden Festival and Arts Trail, we were able to engage new audiences and inspire people to take steps towards a more sustainable life.

This was our first year engaging with so many schools which gave students the opportunity to lead tours, talks, and demonstrations. I was really overwhelmed with their knowledge and the homemade crafts that they had available for the public to purchase. Well done students!

Being my first year coordinating this event I was really impressed with the amount of support, aroha, and dedication from our community. It's been incredible connecting with so many kind, generous, and enthusiastic people. I have been reflecting a lot, and I am so excited for 2021! If you or someone you know would like to open their backyard for the 2021 event, please get in touch.

Ngā mihi,

Erin Strampel,

Sustainable Backyards Trail Coordinator
