Together We Grow - Free Film Screening

The housing crisis, 6% rise in inflation, food insecurity and social isolation from COVID-19 has forced Aotearoa communities to unite. To address these issues, Sustainable Taranaki collaborated with the Stratford District Council to host a free screening of ‘Together We Grow’. The New Zealand documentary proves how people working together with a common goal can offer support in an economic system that is struggling to cope.

"We were thrilled to share this first public screening in Taranaki to grow more connected communities," says South Taranaki Area Manager Andrea Rowe.

"This film inspires you to be part of something greater– where people come together by growing, sewing, repairing, and sharing."

The inspiring 40-minute film shares the story of Wellington’s Common Unity, a thriving hub in Lower Hutt. Founder Julia Milne and her team have created a replicable model for developing resilient communities that can be applied anywhere in the world.

“This film encourages healthy behaviours and community connections throughout Taranaki,” says Project Manager Alexandra Vernal.

“With the support of TOI Foundation, we’ve been engaging with our community to promote caring for our taiao so people adopt environmentally-friendly habits."

We look forward to supporting our community by bringing them closer to real-life examples of sustainability, and showing them how to get involved in local initiatives,” says Vernal.
