Sustainable Fashion Market coming to New Plymouth

Good news - you won’t have to travel to get your shopping fix as New Plymouth’s fashion market opens on May 29th at Bell Block Hall. Interested in having a stall at the fashion market? Visit My Walk In Wardrobe to learn how you can get involved.

Katy Pakinga’s desire for a modern and sustainable wardrobe made her think outside the box.

With fashion being the world’s biggest polluter, the My Walk In Wardrobe founder wants to help Kiwis save money and protect the environment.

“There’s so much unnecessary waste when you can buy quality clothes second-hand.”

Shopping ethically means you can fulfill your wants for something new without creating more waste. Fashion markets also provide people with the opportunity to make money and declutter their lives of fashion that no longer fits.

My Walk In Wardrobe started as a small op-shop in Wellington that evolved into a central city fashion market that expanded to Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa.

What Can You Do?

Next time you have the urge to buy a new outfit, stop and ask yourself, do I really need this?

Fast fashion is cheap but the impact on our environment is massive in textile waste, carbon emissions, water use, pollution, and exploitative labor practices.

Purchase brands that use recycled or organic eco-friendly materials and if luck’s on your side, you might even find a favourite label at your local op-shop.
